Het visuele aspect bij optredens en live shows wordt steeds belangrijker en door nieuwe technologieën is er steeds meer mogelijk. Hoe kan muziek en geluid worden vertaald naar beeld en licht?

Het visuele aspect bij optredens en live shows wordt steeds belangrijker en door nieuwe technologieën is er steeds meer mogelijk. Hoe kan muziek en geluid worden vertaald naar beeld en licht? De laatste Beamlab voor de zomerstop staat helemaal in het teken van het visualiseren van muziek en geluid, met toonaangevende designers die vertellen over hun projecten en manier van werken. Tijdens deze editie zijn onder andere te gast: Manuel Rodrigues (<a href="http://deepred.tv/">deepred.tv</a>) Bij Manuel Rodrigues van deepRED.tv draait alles om muziekvisualisatie. Liefde voor muziek is de belangrijkste motivatie voor al zijn werk. Hij begon zijn carrière in 1991 als graffiti-artiest. Later studeerde hij Interactive Media Design aan het Amsterdamse Media College en Visual Effects & Interaction Design aan de Nederlandse Filmacademie. In nauwe samenwerking met muzikanten ontwikkelt Manuel het visuele component bij verschillende live shows. Zijn missie: het vertalen van geluid naar beeld. Voor de VPRO ontwierp hij de eerste televisie-huisstijl en diverse leaders en animaties voor documentaires en programma's. Hij maakte video animaties bij live muziek voor o.a. het Radio Symphonie Orkest, NOW, Vredenburg en Paradiso. Een speciale editie van Beamlab die zich helemaal richt op nieuwe technieken voor podiumkunsten. Met o.a. Ramon Schreuder over het filmpje Dance is..., de theatervoorstelling LOS van Puck van Dijk samen met VJ Sander Kloppenburg en performer Jip Loots.

Makers van theater- en dansvoorstellingen zijn altijd op zoek naar innovatieve middelen om hun verhalen te vertellen. Nieuwe media en moderne technieken spelen een grote rol, met autonome kunstwerken zoals (interactieve) installaties, videoclips en andere verschijningsvormen als onderdeel van een voorstelling. Janine Dijkmeijer, mede-oprichter en artistiek directeur van <a href="http://www.cinedans.nl/">Cindedans</a>, is gastredacteur voor deze speciale editie van Beamlab die zich helemaal richt op nieuwe technieken voor podiumkunsten. Ruben van Leer (<a href="http://www.westframe.com/">Westframe</a>) studeerde aan het Sandberg Institute MFA, San Francisco Art Institute en Master Filmacademy MA. Hij ontwikkelde verschillende grote cross-media producties voor artiesten als Peter Greenaway (Writing on Water) en de Black Eyed Peas (Energy Never Dies tour). Sinds 2009 regisseert en produceert hij internationaal videoclips en is hij ook begonnen met het schrijven en regisseren van films. Onlangs maakte hij het filmpje Dance is… dat in maart in première ging tijdens Cinedans. Het is een interactieve interpretatie van dans, live uitgevoerd in 60 seconden. Beamlab is the bimonthly event on moving images, media and visuals - for rendez-vous, exchange and inspiration. A platform where creatives and technicians can express themselves and exchange innovative ideas, create new partnerships, learn about future scenarios of manufacturers and engage in creative dialogue and action. This edition it’s all about Interactive media art and light design, with inspiring multimedia concepts and presentations. Speakers include: Mark Ridder & Arion de Munck (<a href="http://kleurbleur.nl/">Kleurbleur Visuals</a>) Kleurbleur takes visual presence in the broadest meaning of the word ranging from theater and dance performance to festivals and company events. Meaning that they create a concept together with the client which can include video, light, set design and everything else necessary to express the identity of the performer or event. Depending on the needed expression this can vary from a simple minimalistic light show to a vast interactive, multidisciplinary installation. The audience will experience a complete immersive show. He works at the cross section of these domains, using his technical knowledge and intuition to explore the impact of emerging technologies on our radically changing reality and society of today. In search of new formats unique to our semi-digital world, his projects range from technically driven concept art to geo-based participative storytelling experiences. His recent works foremostly exist in the augmented public space worldwide, accessible through a smartphone. To Veenhof, "AR" provides a perfect environment to work on projects in which virtual elements and physical components truly integrate and mutually empower each other, leading to a result that could not be possible otherwise. Veenhof is one of the founding members of Manifest.AR, a collective of artists creating their works in "AR". We study and develop novel sensing and computing technologies for smart systems with a strong focus on the usability and acceptability issues. Two application areas are in focus: elderly care and information systems in public spaces. For the minor Intelligent Environments the Digital Life Center created a workshop that focused on novel interfaces by making use of a MakeyMakey. With just aluminium foil, Play-Doh and everything they could find on a scavenging hunt, the students were asked to create a interface that had to do something with the theme "get connected". The main mission of Cinekid is media literacy and media resistance. Our everyday environment is increasingly influenced by digital and technological developments. For children, these developments have major consequences: their world has more options than ever. Sometimes this is disturbing, sometimes beautiful, sometimes simply incomprehensible or even (virtual) invisible. The cascade of interactive images requires an active and critical attitude. De laatste Beamlab van 2012 staat helemaal in het teken van licht, en de invloed ervan in verschillende omgevingen en contexten. Van 7 december tot en met 20 januari is Amsterdam het decor van het Amsterdam Light Festival en presenteren (internationale) lichtkunstenaars hun werk in de binnenstad van Amsterdam, langs een route van verlichte panden en lichtsculpturen. British electronic duo Addictive TV (Graham Daniels & mash-up guru Mark Vidler) recently worked with Resolume on their new live set-up, and at ADE Beamlab they will explain how it works, followed by a live performance. Addictive TV delve deep into movies and videos hunting for sounds and images to sample, creating dance music that fuses everything from fidget and electro to drum ‘n bass and rock. Op deze avond zoeken we naar nieuwe vormen van datavisualisatie en spin-offs voor het vervolg van het populaire VPRO-programma, waarvoor partijen zich kunnen presenteren.

Afgelopen seizoen was ‘slow television’ programma Nederland van Boven een doorslaand succes, mede dankzij fantastische datavisualisaties van een Engels bureau. Voor de nieuwe serie afleveringen is de VPRO nieuwsgierig naar nieuwe toepassingen en Nederlands talent om geo-informatie te visualiseren. Deze avond presenteren partijen zichzelf aan de VPRO en publiek. Verschillende partijen presenteren hun kunsten op het gebied van datavisualisatie. O.a. Erik van Gameren, Erik Nap en Niels Schrader zijn aan de slag gegaan met de datasets van Nederland van Boven en laten zien hoe zij deze geo-informatie kunnen visualiseren. Evo Preisner laat zien hoe je bestaand beeldmateriaal kunt hergebruiken en is aan het werk gegaan met het vrijgegeven videomateriaal van Nederland van Boven. Tot slot presenteren PolakVanBekkum en studenten van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam en Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam hun ideeën voor spin-off's rond Nederland van Boven, en laten de mogelijkheden om het verhaal plus de beschikbare informatie en data, in een nieuwe vorm te gebruiken. Rombout is ook bestuurslid van de Intelligent Lighting Institute van de TU/e. Het Intelligent Lighting Institute veranderderde het hoofdgebouw van de TU/e in een interactieve gevel tijdens het GLOW festival. Meeus is van 2004 tot 2008 video curator geweest in club 11. De samenwerking met club 11 heeft zich voortgezet in het ontwikkelen van de lichtontwerpen voor club Trouw. DIt doet hij tot op heden. In 2010 opende Meeus, in samenwerking met producer Aardvarck, de Museumnacht. Dit deed hij doormiddel van een audiovisuele lichtinstallatie. Dit doen ze sinds begin 2010 voor Beamlab. Circus Family is een audiovisuele ontwerp studio, gespecialiseerd in motion design, animatie, visual effects en live action produktie. Het werk bestaat uit documentaires, korte films, in-store presentaties, music videos, commercials en animaties. De focus van het kleine vaste team ligt op regie, camera, visual effects & technische produktie en wordt ondersteund door een uitgebreid netwerk van freelancers. <a href="http://www.anoukwipprecht.nl/">Anouk Wipprecht</a> (fashiontech designer) ontwierp voor Fergie van de Black Eyed Peas haar Super Bowl 2011 halftime show dress; bezaaid met Swarovski kristallen en geintegreerd met LED verlichting en bijpassende lichtgevende schoenen gemaakt met Luminex, een lichtgevende stof. BeamLab is dé avond over bewegend beeld, met dit keer het thema 'opdrachtgevers en creatieve vrijheid'. Met o.a. BNO Animatie en Hazazah.

<h4>Opdrachtgevers en creatieve vrijheid</h4> Deze avond is onder leiding van Maaike Engels (Urbi et Orbi). De animatie van NRCV's "Altijd Wat Wijzer" wint de ‘motion graphics' Gold Award. Animator WOUW! en ontwerpers Subsoda kregen de opdracht. De animatie legt a.d.h.v. feiten en cijfers een maatschappelijk onderwerp uit. Wat was de opdracht en hoe is dit succesvol geïnterpreteerd? Het platform BNO Animatie brengt animatoren met elkaar in contact, creëert bekendheid, bevordert de ontwikkeling van het vak en stimuleert professionalisering. Hazazah vertegenwoordigt 10 regisseurs, o.a. Wim van der Aar, Bram Schouw en André Maat en 8 fotografen. Hazazah Pictures is opgericht in 2009 en ontwikkelt en produceert korte en lange films en documentaires.
